Ifta (Darul Iftaa)

The staff includes qualified jurists who can give answers in Arabic, English, Urdu and Gujarati. Queries are taken by email, letter or telephone. All correspondence is kept strictly confidential.

This institute, realising the need of the local and international community, develops students beyond the 6-year Alim course with an additional year in which they specialise in Islamic jurisprudence. This year is designed to give graduated students practice in Ifta — the issuing of Islamic legal rulings.

The Iftaa course equips students with the knowledge and skills required to issue informed verdicts rooted in Islamic tradition. Along with studying specialised texts with experienced Muftis, the main focus is to give students real-life practice and experience of answering day-to-day issues within the community.

Students participate in real-life case studies, issuing fatawa under supervision, developing the confidence and competence to be responsible scholars, and working in collaboration with other institutes, organisations and personalities to enrich their experience.

Approximately two external workshops or trainings are offered per term, covering a range of real-world topics that a Mufti may encounter in community service.
